Henry George Merry family papers [ca. 1880-]-1962.

The Henry George Merry Family papers span the years circa 1880-1962. In his diaries, Merry described business transactions and recorded family news and his personal and business trips. Photographs dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries depict mining equipment and operations in Michigan, Virginia and Idaho. Business correspondence and legal records document activities of Merry Investment, Merry's mining land investment company. Newspaper clippings contain mining industry news. Personal correspondence of Merry and his wife and sons contain news on family members and descriptions of business activities. One folder contains Merry's will and items regarding the handling of his estate after his death.

Henry George Merry was born in Negaunee, Mich. on November 10, 1862. He married Charlotte Morross in 1886, and the two had four sons. Merry worked in the mining industry for most of his life. By 1883, he was an agent for the McComber Mine in Marquettte County, Mich. In 1887, he went to work for the Low Moor Mining Iron Company in Low Moor, Virginia and became their General Manager in 1890.
